A newborn, sleep deprivation, and the worlds most wonderful beverage.

As with most newborns, Lily's sleeping pattern is, well, inconsistent at best. Last night was especially rough. Anita and I both got maybe two hours of sleep apiece. Ugh. So I have been dragging ass today, making it through with coffee. I made pots of coffee today at 6:30 AM, 11:00 AM, and 3:30 PM.

My love affair with coffee is not new. I first realized I had a problem one morning about eight years ago. I made coffee in the morning, and poured it into my giant travel mug. I was in the car, alone, when I took my first sip. I actually said out loud, "Oh, Sweet Love." That's right, I said it out loud. By myself.

I know that much coffee is bad for me. It's bad for my blood pressure and my kidney stone issue. But damn it, if it isn't the most wonderful thing in the world to drink. And it's helping me get through the sleep deprivation induced by my daughter. Perhaps I will cut back after she starts sleeping through the night. Maybe then I will cut back to two pots a day.
